There are estimated of between 120 and 175 defenders at The Alamo.
The "official" numbers vary from 189 to 257 defenders. There were several noncombatants which are probably what cause the confusion. All the defenders died fighting except a half dozen that were taken prisoner who were taken to Santa Anna and hacked to pieces by his officers for Santa Anna's entertainment.
It was originally found that 189 Americans died at the Battle of the Alamo. This is the current official number. However, new historical estimates may guestimate the number as high as 257. There are many former congressmen from Tennessee. Davy Crockett is one of the most famous former congressmen from Tennessee. He served in the U.S. House of Representatives March 4, 1827 - March 4, 1831 and again March 4, 1833 - March 4, 1835. He was a famous American folk hero and frontiersman who died in the Battle of the Alamo at the age 49 on March 6, 1836.
