For most breeds, female dogs go into heat twice a year, usually every 6 months. When they go into heat that is when they can get pregnant. And they are pregnant for about two months, and nurse their puppies for about one.
So they can get pregnant twice a year.

∙ 12y agoA safe number of pregnancies per year for your dog may depend on the type of dog. However I have a dog myself and is a breeder for service animals and it's best to have puppies once a year. However it's okay if they go into heat twice a year. Especially if they don't turn out to be pregenant the first time, which is odd, I know. I hope this helps. So stick with once a year and if you must two times a year. It's better for your dog once, especially in the beginning, most dogs dislike it due to the discomfort like most moms don't like having a baby because of the weight, discomfort, ect and the same with the dog.
