Well I'm guessing schools are different but in my school you could fail 2 minors or one major and pass. If you failed English and Math that would be the 2 majors so you failed, If you failed only one of the majors you'd pass. The minors were gym, social studies, science, home ec, french and Idustrial arts, you could fail any 2 of these and still pass the grade. So it all depends on how many test you pass but in 5th grade for me was 3 grades then you get held back.
I'm failing theatre. Will I still pass?
Most elementary and middle schools have a policy of two failing grades in a semester or trimester resulting in retention (being held back). This policy should be available to you somewhere, perhaps your schedule book or school handbook. Additionally, your parents will receive a letter from the school or district notifying them that you will be retained or that the school is recommending it.

Very competitive colleges will look back as far to your junior high school record. If your school district counted the 6th grade as a part of junior high (as opposed to the last grade of elementary school), then it is possible that your 6th grade grades may be taken into consideration. However, most colleges do not have the time to dig that far back for each applicant, and will only use such grades in rare cases of consideration.
of course you will flunk
Because Lou Gehrig died before middle school was invented, Lou Gehrig didn't attend middle school. According to Wikipedia, Lou Gehrig attended two schools in Manhattan: PS 132 and Commerce High School. For the grades that are now called Middle School (the term only dates back to the 1950s; Lou Gehrig died in 1941), he would have attended PS 132 for 5th through 8th grades and Commerce High for 9th grade.
Good question! Back when Lincoln was born, middle schools were far, far off in the future. He attended the usual one-room schoolhouse that had all grades mixed together.
yes you can, I've been kept back several times
Grades are levels, and years are time. Some students skip grades based on their results, while others are held back to repeat grades.
No, a principal cannot simply kick a student out of school for failing. Schools must follow specific procedures outlined in their discipline policies and state laws before taking such action. The school should provide support and interventions to help the student succeed academically before resorting to expulsion.
