I was in the Marines, and there was one general per base...so, I would guess to say that there is at least one per base in all the branches and one from each branch doing the DC thing.....how many military bases are there? I don't know.

There were many, many Generals at D-Day. I would estimate that over 50 General officers of the British, American and Canadian forces were on France by nightfall of D-Day.
