Gorillas are the largest of the living primates known to men, There are only 720 mountain gorillas left in the world. Many of them live in Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Threats to gorilla survival include habitat destruction and the bushmeat trade.
There are several areas in Rwanda and Congo that are called "Virunga". I live in Virunga National Park in Congo. The weather can be quite pleasant in the southern part, but at times it can rain, thunder, and lightening quite intensely. If you are climbing Nyiragongo volcano, it will be VERY cold. If you're hiking to see the gorillas, it will be pleasant but hard work, and when it rains it's cold.
About half the world's mountain gorillas live in the Virunga Volcano Mountains, which spread across the borders between Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Uganda
Mountain gorillas live in the mountainous regions of central Africa, specifically in the Virunga mountain range which spans Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. They primarily inhabit dense forests at high altitudes.
