Only about 5% of lawyers go to court at all. Most work by lawyers is done working out contracts, preparing documents, taking depositions or doing research. There is a saying that the goal of a good attorney is to keep his client from going to court. The lawyers that go to court are the litigators and this is sort of a specialty within the profession. Admission to the practice of law enables an attorney to appear in court, but few actually see the inside of a courtroom unless they get a traffic ticket of their own.
Of those that do litigation court is not usually a daily event. It may be nearly a daily event for those engaged in the practice of criminal law, either for the prosecution or the defense. In that area of law it is not unusual for an attorney to spend four or five hours in court daily.
