The complete Dean Martin Show DVD contains 264 episodes running at approximately 25 minutes each, making 110 hours of video. It's also interesting to note that the original television series ran for 52 minutes but was severely cut back due to the data restraints of the DVD format.
While he may have had some fun dabbling in songwriting, it is not what he was ever known for. Martin was a much-loved vocalist, from an era where great singers rarely wrote their own hits; like many of the stars in the Big Band and Middle-of-the-Road era, he had access to well-respected songwriters whose job it was to come up with potential hits the stars could sing. Among the songwriters who wrote big hits that Dean Martin sang were Sam Coslow, Ken Lane, Irving Taylor, Carl Sigman, Jack Brooks, and Harry Warren.
First recorded by Vaughn Monroe. Also recorded by: Frank Sinatra Andy Williams Chicago Gloria Estefan Dean Martin Johnny Mathis The Three Tenors Michael Buble
it has been recorded MANY times: The first one was by Domenico Modugno (who also wrote the song)-went to number one in 1958. Also covered by Dean Martin in the same year. Also charted by Bobby Rydell in 1960 And charted by Al Martino in 1975 Also a wonderful newer version by the Gypsy Kings in the 90's.
To end all arguments:Elvis Presley - over 1 BILLIONThe Beatles - 515 MillionMichael Jackson - 500 MillionAfter their careers ended, they carried on selling more:Elvis - 1977-2011 = 34 YEARS his records were able to sell an extra 500milBeatles - 1970-2011 = 41 YEARS the full catalogue sold an extra 485milMichael Jackson-2009-2011 = 2 Years in two years, he sold 10milThe King of Rock n Roll is The Greatest Artist EverThe Prince of Popular Music is nowhere nearThe Beatles are The Greatest Band Ever
Hard to answer ... a safe guess might be some 15,000 hours or so. I don't mean to be rude, but that's ridiculous. Generous estimates put his total number of compositions at about 1000 (though the existing catalog lists a little over 600). His compositions don't average 15 hours a piece, needless to say. Perhaps you meant 1,500 hours? That would still be way too high, but at least it's in the ballpark. The actual number? Who knows? But well under 1000 hours. Complete collections of his complete works (that haven't been lost) run about 200 hours.
