It is about a square mile of slum containing an over 1.5 million persons in Nairobi Kenya. it is the largest slum inAfrica and one of the largest in the world. Only recently has there been access to fresh clean water, and even then they must pay for it. Most people in kibera get paid around a dollar a day. So many can't afford the clean water. So they retrieve it from Nairobi dam, and the sueage streams; which are not clean. The most common disease are: cholera and typhoid, both easily preventable disease by having clean air , water , and food. when they get sick most can not afford to go to the large hospitals in Nairobi and it costs around 20 shillings for a malaria tablet! girls and women can not go out after dark because of crime, rape and shooting!
Kenya slums are awful. There is no electricity, running water or gas. There is only one room inside the slum and many people share the slum. There is not a lot of room in the slum and the slums are placed close together on land nobody wants.
I think the people who lived in slum areas are likely to get sick because people lived in crowded ,unsanitary conditions.
