Depends on what kind of transmission you have ,on a transmission 4LE80 needs approx 14 quarts when changing the fluids in the entire system ,if you are changing just the fluid on a transmission pan it's only five quarts.

I took my Chevy 2005 avalanche 4×4 to a shop I wanted them flush the old fluid put brand new fluid in and put a new filter in and new gasket when I got it back it was lil over 2 qts shy I called them asked why and they said cas I had a broken dipstick I said but when u flush it out you put 5 qts back in I want to know why is it short? They kept saying cas it was the dipstick.. Help please cas I'm not mechanic but I do know some things..
