A 60 inch round table has a surface area of about 19.7 square feet. For a tablecloth with an 18" overhang this needs to be increased to an 96" diameter circle. That is 8 feet wide by 8 feet long then cut into a circle for a table cloth without seams. or with a 1 foot overhang plus fringe it needs to be 7 feet of 7 foot wide fabric. either way you'll probably need to buy 3 yards off the bolt. For a 60 inch diameter cloth, (for a 48" or smaller table) only 2 yards of 5 or 6 foot wide fabric is needed.

Since material comes in rectangular shapes, you need a 60" x 60" square piece of material which is 5' x 5' or 25 square feet. A yard is 9 square feet, so you need 3 yards of material, which is 27 square feet.

This is where you need to use PI.

PI*radius power 2

that gives you the area in square inches

you will need a bit extra when cutting and sowing together in order to make it round.

you probably want it to hang down a little bit around the edges and this should allso be added.

If you want it to hang down by three inches all around the table, then you add 6 inches to the diameter.

Good luck with the work :-)

A foot is 12 inches.

A yard is 36 inches.

Before buying yardage, measure the table exactly, both length and width and don't forget to measure how much you want to drape off the sides. Also, add at least 1 to 2 inches on all "edges". For a wide table, you will likely need 2 sets of yardage of the same length.

So, let's say the table top is 60 inches and it it 35 inches wide (weird measurements but it's just an example). You prefer it hangs 5 inches off each end and sides. If you are new to sewing, add 2 inches on each end and each side.

So your length is 60+5+2=67 inches

Your width is 35+5+2=42 inches

Fabric comes in 36 inches wide and 48 inches wide (this is not yardage, it's width).

So using my example, you'd need the 48 inch wide fabric (heck, why not just let it hang more down each side?) You'd need 67 inches length... in yardage, you might as well get 72 inches and maybe use the extra fabric to make some kind of crafty table decorations.

So with my example, you'd need 6 yards for length at 48 inch width. If your table is high enough, you wouldn't need to hem the length sides because the fabric has finished edges.

If your table is wider, you may need 2 orders of 72 inch length by 36 inch width. You'd lay each down the table so they meet in the middle, fold the print (outside) sides together and sew down the middle. How much hangs depends on the width of the table.

The best way for consumers is just take the measurements to the fabric store. Include table top + hang length + hem size for length and these same items for width. Ask the sales clerk to help you determine how much fabric to buy. If unsure how to construct it, ask the clerk to lay out 2 small fabric pieces and show you how.

Fashion fabric is a type of fabric intended for creating the clothing that meets the latest fashion trends. Typically, it is about special occasion outfits, but it may also comprise the elements of your casual or working wardrobe. These fabrics are often produced by the leading manufacturers in the industry, whose expertise in fabric design counts many decades.

Not limited to one particular type of fibre, weave, pattern or finishing detail, fashion fabrics come in a wide range of designs depending on the style trends of the current fashion season. These days, fashionistas can go either for timeless options, such as embroidered tulle, delicate lace, tweed boucle and velvet fabrics, or seasonal dressmaki

It is important to draw a line between fashion fabrics and couture fabrics at this point, as in the first case we mean textiles meeting the current fashion trends, while the second term stands for the fabrics that have more commonalities with art rather than with fashion in its utilitarian sense.

How many yards of fabric to make a 72 diameter table cloth?

You don't say what shape of table. However, for a table cloth you need to measure the length and width of the table plus 12" overhang on each side. For example, if your table is rectangular 72" long and 30" wide you'll need fabric 96" long and 54" wide minimum (plus you'll need to add a little extra to allow for hemming; maybe another inch per side). In the event your table is round, you'll need enough fabric for 98" x 98" (hem allowance included).

What is silence cloth?

Silence Cloth is used on a dining table under the table cloth. It is a thick felt fabric that adds a soft barrier between china and silver and the wooden or glass table underneath. The term 'silence cloth' was given to the fabric as it silenced the clanging of dropped utensils. It also has the added benefit of protecting delicate china and porcelain place settings against chips and nicks.

That completely depends on the height of table top above the floor. The width of the tablecloth needs to be the width of the table (60") plus twice the height from the floor. So, if the height from the floor is 30", the tablecloth needs to be 120" wide.
