If you are talking about water it is 1.5 litres a day but about alcohol none drinking alcohol is not necessary however if you do want to drink alcohol 1/2 glasses of wine at diner might actually be slightly beneficial but most important of all drink responsibly.

There is no such thing as normal intake of alcohol. For some men zero is normal for some men 10 glasses a week is normal. But ten glasses of what? beer, wine?

A better question might what is the average intake.

one drink equals: 12 oz. of regular beer (5% of alcohol), 5 oz. of table wine (12% of alcohol), 3-4 oz of fortified wine (17% of alcohol), 2-3 oz of cordial liqueur or apperitif (24% of alcohol), 1.5 oz of brandy (40% of alcohol) or 1.5 oz. (a shot) of 80 proof liquor (40% of alcohol).

for men, four drinks in one day. For women no more than three drinks in any day.
