Why do people call their kids rabbits?

Hundreds of years ago, rabbits were called "coneys" (pronounced with a soft o, as in "honey"), and baby coneys were called "rabbits." Over time, the word coney was phased out, and the word rabbit came to be used for the adults; baby rabbits are now called "kittens" (or "kits"). The current nickname for rabbits, "bunnies," derives from their original name. Some languages still use the original name (e.g. the Spanish word for "rabbit" is "conejo"; the Dutch, "konijn"). Some species have the word "rabbit" in their name, like the jack rabbit, when they're not actually rabbits: e.g. jack rabbits are hares. Hares and rabbits are closely related, though (both lagomorphs). It's a common misconception that "bunny" means a baby rabbit. Baby rabbits are called "kits." The word "bunny" is just a nickname for "rabbits." More Answers: Rabbits has a scientific name "Lagomorph" which means long ears, big feet, and continually growing teeth. So a man named a rabbit a rabbit for all its appearances. A rabbit is called a rabbit because it is the adult form of a bunny. That's incorrect - a common misconception!

Is it bad to hold a rabbit upside down?

Yes, just like a human all the blood rushes to his head and frightens him. Rabbits are ground dwellers so they aren't comfortable being held in the first place. If you are going to hold him, hold him like how you hold a human baby but don't let his paws dangle. Fun Fact-- rabbits can kick so hard that they can break their own back! Trust me. ( with a point )

Can you take a baby bunny a bath?

Healthy rabbits keep themselves clean and do not need baths. If your 9-week old rabbit (or any age of rabbit) needs a bath, something is wrong and the rabbit might need to see a vet. Baths can be dangerous for rabbits, so if you need to give one, you must follow certain procedures to ensure the rabbit stays safe. See the related question below for details and links -- it applies to 9-month old rabbits as well as all ages of rabbits.

Do rabbits' fur get easily cleaned after drenched in oil?

No, rabbits fur does not clean easily. You will need to wash your rabbit in gentle soap such as Woolite. You will need to wash your rabbit like you would a baby making sure that you hold it's head above water. Make sure you rinse well and keep the bunny inside until dry. You may have to repeat this process as oil is hard to remove. The rabbit is able to clean itself SOME but what you describe will take work on your part.

I just got a new 1 month old rabbit I want to learn more things about them do they like fruit how to hold them and how to get them to like you?

Rabbits love fruit, but be careful not to give them too much a day because of the sugars. I found that my rabbit liked apples, grapes and bananas. But only in small amounts. Also when you hold them usually you hold them like a baby with support under their butt. But most rabbits don't like to be held anyways. And to get them to like you, let them be able to come in and out of their cage on their own and come up to you, instead of you approaching them. If your rabbit is really skittish then move slowly, and be patient. They do warm up to you and your surroundings after a couple weeks.
