Best Answer

It is my understanding that they are paid by the week. Most backstage/technical employees are members of IATSE, and a sound engineer makes about $2000 per week. That may sound like a lot, but you first must make connections to find a job and then that job is extremely difficult-not only in skill of the technician but also in time commitment.

Why don't Broadway people have their same parts in the movie?

People who finance Broadway productions are not the same people who finance Hollywood movies. Everyone is in the business to make money. Many Broadway (and live theater, in general) actors are unknown to the general public because the vast majority of Americans do not go to live theater events. Therefore, Hollywood money-people want to put someone in a movie that the vast majority of Americans have heard of and will recognize. They are hoping that people will go to see the movie just because "Big Name Actor" is in it.
