It really depends on where you choose to go to school. Here are some figures:

* Community college: $2,000 to $5,000. * Culinary institute: $7,000 to $36,000. * Public university: $3,000 to $18,000 * Private university: $14,000 to $45,000.

There are no standard tuition and fee rates for colleges and universities. Each institution will have rates particular to itself. There are a number of variables to consider to include whether the institution is public or private, the geographical location, the specific program of study (some of which have greater course and/or clinical fees), and whether the school is a two year or four year institution. Once you collect the names of some colleges and universities you have an interest in, you can then research the cost specific to those institutions.

It really depends. First, nobody wakes up one day and becomes a chef. It requires training, during which time you will work your way up in a professional kitchen, apprenticing with experienced chefs and learning how things are done. Another path that many people today will take is getting a degree in culinary arts. The benefits of this are that you will be in school learning both theory and how to apply it: how to manage a restaurant, how to cook various cuisines, how to create healthy and low-fat meals when asked, etc.

Many schools offer either a certificate, an Associate's degree or a Bachelor's. Most schools also offer a chance to get hands-on experience, such as working in the school's restaurant, where students (working with an experienced chef) create new menus and try out new dishes. So, depending on the path you take, it may be several years or even more before you have the experience and credibility to run your own kitchen and be considered a professional chef. Just as a point of information, I offer a link to the culinary arts programs at Newbury College here in greater Boston, one of a number of reputable schools that offer training that leads to becoming a chef.

Do you need education for becoming a chef?

Yes, you do. The education may take the form of on the job training, but if so you should expect to start at the lowest assistant level; you're not going to be hired as head chef at a fancy restaurant straight out of high school. You can become a "cook" without any additional education, but if you aspire to be a "chef", you will need to attend one of the culinary institutes.

How many months or years of training does a chef need?

It's totally depending on your capability or intelligence. If I am talking about short -term chef training courses One year and long term chef training maximum 3 year. I think 3 year chef training courseis good for a professional chef. One year course,students learn only basic knowledge of chef , and three year chef training courses learn more new things, all the knowledge of a professional chef, cutting, chopping, how to serve, we can easily understand the responsibilities or duties of chef.
