There is really not enough information to answer this question copletely. I can say for sure that pay rates vary by locations because each stat can set it's own minimum wage. I don't know about petsmart from experience but I have worked in retail. At the old wally world, and the Home D. as well it varies due to annual evaluations that may or may not result in a pay increase. so a new hire could presumeably make less than an experienced cashier. The manager who hires the person could also take past experience into account when offering a position.
