Military pay is complicated. Pay differs from location to location, and by family size. There is also a tax advantage.

Basically an Army Full Colonel (O-6) with 1 year service makes $90,436.08, and with 45 years service $142,186.08. I'll bet there are none in either category, so the average is somewhere in the middle. Maybe around $128,000.

How much does a retired army reserve colonel make?

Depends how long he served. 20 years = 50% base pay, 30 years = 75% base pay. It also depends on what year he retired, as the base pay goes up 3-5% every year, so he receives whatever his base pay WAS, not what it is NOW.

Approximately how much does a military fighter pilot make a year?

ALL Servicemen get paid according to their rank. A Colonel pilot will be paid more than a Lieutenant Colonel pilot, he'll receive more money than a Major, etc. Pay grade is the 0-4 grade for a Major, 0-5 for a Lt. Col., 0-6 for a Col. etc. The pay-grade is what counts, because a US Navy Captain is a full bird 0-6 Colonel in the US Army, Air Force, and Marine Corps. An Army Captain is a Lieutenant in the US Navy.

Is a captain a higher rank than commander?

This all depends on which branch of the military you are talking about. In the Army, Air Force, & Marines the term "Captain" is typically interchangeable with the term "Commander." A Captain typically commands a company-sized element. Of course, there are also Battalion, Brigade, and Division Commanders as well who are much higher in rank than Captain.
