You have probably heard the myth that you need to drink 8 glasses of water a day. In reality, you need about 8 cups of fluid (or 2 litres) a day. Some of that fluid will come from the water in your food, such as fruits and vegetables. Some will also come from milk, fruit juice and vegetable juice. Soda, coffee and tea don't count because the caffeine is a diuretic, which causes you to lose water. Alcohol also causes you to lose water.

You need extra water if you are exercising or if the weather is very hot. You need less if you weigh less than average. Drinking a glass of water before every meal will help you to lose weight.
