Once the chick has started to "PIP" it will take from two hours up to 24 hours. It depends on the humidity in the incubator and the strength of the chick. some very determined chicks can break open the shell and emerge in a matter of hours.

Once the chick starts to break out of the shell (pipping) it will take anywhere from 2 to 8 hours normally. They work at making holes in a circle all around the inside of the shell and rest quite a bit. Do not help it as you may do more damage than the chick can survive.

For a chicken it can take 24 hours from the first sign of peeping. Peeping is when the chick makes holes in the shell to escape. This is hard work and the chick will often stop and rest.
