Learning is a continuous process , however to call oneslf a trained anesthsiologist one needs to know not only anesthesia but should have a sound knowledge of physiology, pharmacology, medicine,physics etc. To assimilate such a wide knowledge time would therefore be an important factor. I feel to call oneself an specilist a basic training of at least three years is essential. if one is interested in furthur specialisation another year should be spent in the chosen speciality such as cardiac,neuro or pediatric OTs, of which at least some time should be spent on the medical side i.e.cardilogy, neurology etc. S Kaushik
