It amazes me how many questions about pools don't have enough information to give a proper and simple answer. This is another of those questions. A pool of these dimensions is most likely going to have a variable depth bottom, probably starting at 3 feet deep in the shallow end and possibly going to 10 feet deep in the deep end if there is a diving board. You also have to consider that the bottom may slope to about 6 feet deep for the first 40 feet and then drop rapidly if it does in fact have a diving area. Without a diving area it is likely to go to a maximun 6 foot depth at the deep end. The easy answer to this is that there is insufficient data to answer it. I'll take a shot at it any way. Start off with the fact that there are 7.48 gallons in 1 cubic foot. The surface area of a pool this size would be 2100 square feet. If it has a level bottom it will contain 15,708 gallons per foot of depth as follows: 1 foot = 15,708 2 feet = 31,416 3 feet = 47,124 4 feet = 62,832 5 feet = 78540 6 feet = 94,248 If we were to assume that it slopes evenly from 3 feet to 6 feet arcoss the entire length of the pool it would contain about 70,686 gallons because the average depth would be 4 1/2 feet. Now we can make a further guestimate about the depth if the pool had a 30 by 30 deep end/diving area, leaving a 30 by 40 foot shallow end. Start with 3 feet at the shallow end up to 6 feet at the drop off to the deep end and 8 linear feet to go from the 6 foot to the 10 foot depth. I won't bother with displaying any formulas or charts since everything will be based on pure speculation on the actual design. Basically we are talking about 104,121 gallons or about 433 tons of water. So in the end the answer is somewhere between 15,708 gallons and 104,121 gallons of water in a pool of this size.
How much water in a 48inch 12foot round pool
It depends on the size of the pool.
Yes, the pool can over-flow.

The best thing to do if you are inexperienced in pool maintenance it to take a sample of water from your pool in a clean bottle from about an arms length in depth to you local pool shop. There they will test the water for free and tel you how much chlorine your pool needs. Take along the dimensions of the pool as well for them to calculate the requirements.
The dimensions of the pool are needed to calculate this Well actually depends how big and how much u put in to it!
