I have one that was purchased in May of 2008. You can call Maytag with your serial number and they could tell you when your machine was purchased.

NO, definitely not so. I have changed hundreds of dishwashers and never found a case like that.
Yes, you certainly can. I bought and old portable dishwasher with a chipped up and ugly top. Here's how: Open the door of the dishwasher and inspect the underside of the top. You'll notice a couple of screws holding some metal brackets (attached to the dishwasher) to the top. Just unscrew them (they'll be located front and back, probably) and lift off the top. Measure it and have a piece of butcher block cut to the same measurements. Then just fit the new top on the old dishwasher brackets and screw the screws up tight. I did this recently and it turned out great. Plus, the butcher block top now goes with everything.

There are some websites that will have Maytag parts. Sometimes they will be cheaper than the prices that is offered at Maytag. However Maytag has the advantage of having specific parts for its appliances versus general generic parts at other websites. Also if you want to find a part for your old Maytag, best bet is to check out the website
There is only one company that manufactures a dishwasher with drawers. Fisher and Paykel. These independent dishwashers can be ran separately. Both units combined is the same size as a standard dishwasher. It can fit in the cabinet where an old dishwasher took place. This dishwasher is not popular or in demand.
We have had ours for 28 years
My mom still has one of these old Maytag A9700 washers and it's about 20 years old. Just from looking inside, it appears to be 3.4-3.6 cuft.
Most chain stores will take away your old dishwasher for free when you purchase and have one delivered from them.
