What is the best detergent for Maytag dishwashers?

Cascade has all ways been a good soap, I would use the liquid kind and you

still might want to put in with it something like Jet dry to help with spot build up.

Now days most dish washer soaps have improve, I just got a new dish washer and it came with a sample of Cascade, I have used the soap in the past and my mother always used the soap.

Happy washing. Cascade w/Dawn dishwasher powder leaves a nasty white film on contents and clogs the water entry points Does NOT work- see Cascadeclean.com

Can you use drain cleaner in dishwasher?

No.

Many vital parts in the dishwasher are plastic. Usually, the drain hose is plastic, too. Drain cleaners are ok for PVC pipes, but too caustic for other types of plastic. Drain cleaners also cause corrosion of metal parts.

How dishwashers work?

When a dishwasher starts it will use a predetermined amount of water to fill, rinse, and cleanse away tough grime buildup on materials such as fabrics. Provided you aren't sensitive to chemicals you can make cloths smell like a rainforest or your favorite perfume with the simple addition of soap.

Why does dishwasher leak from bottom?

Gravity. The circulator pump is at the bottom as is the drain pipe and drain pump. All seals are likely to fail but the most common is the seal on the circulation pump shaft. There is often a paddle/level switch on the undertray that cuts off the machine if the water level gets too high. The easiest way to find the area of a water leak that is not obvious is to dry the floor under the appliance, remove the undertray and return the machine to the upright position. Then put a newspaper under it. Mark the position of front edge of the appliance on the paper. Run the appliance and periodically pull the paper from under the appliance, putting the paper back in exactly the same place after each check. When water is seen on the paper, stop the machine. the mark on the paper can them be used to line up with and locate the area of the leak.

Dishwasher safe symbol?

I don't think that there is such a thing, universally recognised, as a "dishwasher safe" symbol. People often confuse the Glass and Fork symbol, which simply means that the item is safe for food contact. It is high time that products carried a simple, universal range of symbols which indicate their suitability for microwaves, ovens, dishwashers etc. It would make our lives much easier.

Can earthenware dishes be put in the dishwasher?

You can use the dishwasher for cleaning earthenware dishes but you should not use bad chemicals or powder. For handmade pottery you need to check with the maker but modern commercial dinnerware, which has a glaze applied over the decorations, can be washed in the dishwasher.

Kitchen faucet doesn't work but dishwasher does?

Possibly unscrew your aerator at the end of the spout and see if the screen is clogged. Blow it out and rescrew the aerator on. If that isn't the problem, sometimes things get caught in the spout. Unscrew the spout and turn the water on. If there is water coming from there and not out the spout when it is hooked up, the spout is plugged. If no water coming out when the spout is off, rehook spout and change cartridges or stems in the faucet AFTER shutting the water off. Depends on the brand of faucet, check the instructions for the brand and model.

Also your kitchen dishwasher and sinks are run on seperate valves. The dishwasher valve is usually under the sinks (causing the water to go to the dishwasher first) the valve that was installed for the sink (before the dishwasher) may be bad too.

Why would the kitchen sink only drain when the garbage disposal is running after trying to dispose of a bunch of grapes and eventually scooping out stems?

Answer The disposal is part of your drain line. It only allows liquid and small particles through it. The whole idea of the disposal is not to allow anything to big to go through the drainage system. The problem is over time the weep holes in the disposal can get clogged with grease. It can be taken apart and cleaned.

You may also want to investigate the trap in the drain as to whether it is the right configuration or it is plugged. We had a similar problem and there was a drinking straw in the pipe!

What is the best way to clean melted plastic out of the bottom of a dishwasher?

I had posted this question in hopes that maybe someone could provide an answer other than what I was considering. I decided to go ahead and try what I was considering, and it worked perfectly. I used Goo GONE which cleaned it up in a jiffy. I do want to thank Lkysmy for the answer to an additional question, getting the smell of burnt plastic out of the dishwasher. Thank you. It worked quite well! :)

Is it worth the effort to try to install an existing portable dishwasher under the counter or just get another dishwasher?

No, it is not worth the effort. Just bite the bullit and buy a new dishwasher I would disagree as I have done it. Almost all portable dishwashers are built ins that have been placed into a shell... much like building it into your counter. Now, the big differences are in the "feed" lines...power and water supply and drain lines. First, remove the unit from the shell.. about a half dozen screws along the bottom and back. Once removed from the shell you will be able to access the power junction box located near the bottom of the unit. Remove the plug and cord, and wire in the hard wire feed. The drain and supply line have the sink tap adaptor on them, just cut the adaptor off with an exacto knife. Attach the drain line to the drain with the appropriate fitting on the drain and secure with a hose clamp. Secure the supply with the appropriate fitting. Install in counter and done. IF you already have, or have installed, a duplex electrical receptacle beneath the counter, then it is not really necessary to remove the power cord and "hardwire" the machine into the household electrical system.j3h. Some brands, like Kenmore, offer a conversion kit that makes the job much easier. Also, since Kenmore actually is a brand that uses other brands like Kitchenaid and Hobart as the actual dishwasher with just the brand name on top, you may be able to use Sears kits on other machines.

What is the quietest brand of dishwasher that gets the dishes the cleanest?

The most quiet dishwasher in the local retail market is a Bosch, going as low as 40dba. However, Bosch is a German-designed dishwasher, which means some cookware may be difficult to fit because of the units design and interior size. There are some good kitchenaids out there that go as low as 41dba, but for the price tag on the kitchenaids, the Bosch would be quite suitable. All the Bosch is lacking is bells and whistles and design when compared to the kitchenaids. Now, best bang for your buck? Samsung. Quiet, efficient and affordable! On a side note, don't become destracted by terms like "quiet guard", "ultra quiet guard", "quiet guard plus", "quiet pak" so on and so forth. These terms mean absolutely nothing but commercial marketing. It's like whitening toothpaste vs. ultra whitening, there's no proven difference. The only way to actually rate a dishwashers quietness is to go by decible rating. And in all actuality, any unit under 52dbl should not be loud enough for the ear to detect unless you're standing within a foot of the machine while running.
