Ulysses S Grant died almost 128 years ago. This coming April, he would be celebrating his 191st birthday. Presently he is serenely decomposing.

Grant's wife was from St. Louis. After Grant left the army, he managed the farm of his father-in-law near St. Louis for awhile. The location is now known as Grant's farm, is open to the public as something of an amusement park and includes a reconstruction of the cabin where Grant lived there.

Ulysses S. Grant was appointed Major General in July, 1863. In March of 1864, Lincoln promotes Grant to the office of Lieutenant General. In this capacity as head of the Union Army of the Potomac, Grant reports directly to President Lincoln. Grant is now in charge of all military operations. After the Civil War, Grant receives the new title of "General of all the Armies. This is done in July, 1866.
