It hurts alot, But yea if they give you the gas you won't feel a thing. Unless you are a ESJCC student and they just give you the shot to numb your mouth and you still feel some of the pain. Mine hurt liek crap and I had my right wisdom tooth removed last Thursday of this year. And the pain still hurts.

∙ 14y agoI had my first wisdom tooth taken out at a dentil hospital/school where I don't think the 'dentist' had ever done it before. It was absolutely horrible.
However when I had my second one out at a 'proper' dentist it was far less painful.
I think it will depend on each invidual case.

∙ 15y agoIt shouldn't hurt at all if you are given proper sedation before the procedure. The area will be sore during the initial recovery period, however, and you will want to take pain relievers for the first day at least.

∙ 12y agoyes. I've found what helps is putting ice on the cheeck outside the mouth as well as making sure you take the pain medication regularly.

∙ 13y agoIt depends if it is getting taken out by a dentist it wont hurt at all, because they use a needle and it numbs the pain, you don't even feel the needle going into the gum :)

Perhaps it would be reasonable, prudent, normal, and obvious to contact the dentist who removed the wisdom tooth. More often than not, you will find that they are quite sympathetic to your painful plight, and as luck would have it, they have extensive experience in managing painful post-operative complications. More than likely, you have what is known as a 'dry socket'. It is easily managed, but it does require that you see the dentist, preferably the one who took the tooth out.
