In sins involving theft there is an obligation put upon the thief to provide restitution for what has been stolen. This means that the stolen article is returned, or, if this is impossible, that equal value of the stolen item is returned. If the thief cannot locate the person or place to which restitution must be made, the restitution is usually consigned to an almsgiving, either to the Church poor box or a specific charity. It is up to the confessor (priest hearing the confession) whether he will give absolution to the penitent before restitution has been made, though it is often the case to do so.

In cases where a person must steal out of necessity, when facing starvation, in need of shelter - basically self-preservation - the act is not stealing if done out of necessity and no sin is committed.

How did the Roman Catholic Church deal with those who collaborated with the Nazis?

Roman Catholic AnswerFor the most part, the "Church" dealt with those who were collaborating in the confessional, and thus under the seal of secrecy. The Church is trying to bring God to people and people to God. The Church is trying to exhort people to live genuine Christian lives in conformity with the Commandments and the Counsels. She only deals with governments in so far as necessary in order to try and ensure that people can worship God in freedom. Pope Pius XII dealt extensively, but covertly, in trying to save individuals.

How did interest in ancient text lead to demand for church reformation?

The Protestant Reformation began as an attempt to reform the Roman Catholic Church, carried out by Western European Catholics who opposed what they perceived as false doctrines and ecclesiastic malpractice - especially the teaching and the sale of indulgences or the abuses thereof, and simony, the selling and buying of clerical offices - that the reformers saw as evidence of the systemic corruption of the Church's Roman hierarchy, which included the Pope. Both issues were dealt with in an altogether different manner by the Roman Catholic Church during the Counter-Reformation.

What Group of Catholic churchmen that covened as a result of the reformation?

Roman Catholic AnswerIt sounds as if you are referring to The Council of Trent, which was the 19th Ecumenical council of the Church held at Trent in the Austrian Tyrol, 1545-63, summoned for the purpose of combating Protestantism and reforming the discipline of the church; the longest and one of the most important of all general councils. It dealt in detail with the doctrinal innovations of the Reformers and with those gross abuses which gave them an opportunity to take root. It was one of the most important events of modern history and has had lasting effect. It was summoned by Pope Paul III and all bishops of the Catholic Church were invited. taken from A Catholic Dictionary, edited by Donald Attwater, Second Edition, Revised

Can a Catholic woman remarry in a Catholic Church after a divorce?

no the church would only recognize your first marriageANSWER: Yes, if you resolve your 1st marriage through the Church's annulment process. The Catholic Church doesn't recognize "Caesar's" (the state's) divorce decree as sufficient dissolution of a solemn promise/covenant (marriage) made before God and witnesses. Marriage can't just be summarily dismissed as easily as it is now in secular society.

Can you get remarried in a Catholic church if you where married before then got divorced?

Probably. + Mixed Marriages + The Catholic Church allows marriage between Catholics and non-Catholics. Because the Church recognizes the tremendous challenge that the interfaith couple will face, they may have to get permission from the bishop. + Declaration of Nullity + All previous marriages, civil or religious, have to be dealt with before someone can be married in the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church believes that God does not recognize civil divorces. Jesus said, "Therefore what God has joined together, no human being must separate." (Mark 10:9) However there may be hope of a declaration of nullity. The term "annulment" is a misnomer because the Church does not undo or erase a marriage bond. Rather the Church issues a declaration of nullity when it discovers that the parties were not truly joined by God and hence a full spiritual sacramental marriage as understood by the Church was not present. Then the parties are free to marry for the first time. Approach the appropriate person your in your parish who has been trained in the process. If you encounter difficulties, you may go directly to the diocese. Be prayerful, honest and patient. It takes a while.
