There's a lot of ways to break up like in a text, letter, on the phone, or just face to face. Face to face is the best way because you are showing her ( as in your girlfriend) that you have courage.

I agree with the above answer. You shouldn't break up by text, because it is showing that you don't have the courage enough to go face to face. You're hiding behind a phone, and it doesn't help the situation. It also shows a lack of respect. If you are really REALLY too afraid, then do it by letter, or possibly over the phone.
