I hate them too.

When the humidity is low, static charge will build up no matter how hard you try to avoid it. The only thing I have found is to touch metal object with something else before touching my hand.

How static electricity affect the world?

Many things, common practical uses are; Paint spraying cars: the paint particles are given a negative charge, and the car frame is given a positive charge, so the paint sprays out, and sicks to the car, and is attracted to all the hard- to reach areas Electrosatic precipitator; in coal fired power station theses are used to stop the dust particles reaching the atmosphere. Particles of ass pass through a charged grid, and becone charged. They then stick to plated either side of this grid, where they can be disposed of safely Photocopier; A charged drum is in the photocopier. Light is then shone through the paper, and whete ther is no print light hits the drum and it looses its charge. This leaves charge where there needs to be ink. Ink is the pulled onto the charged drum, and transfered onto paper Antistatic floors; to avoid static charges in hospital, the floors are made out of an antistatic material, so no charge can build up.

Why do medical staff wear covers over their shoes during surgerys?

Oxygen creates a fire hazard (oxygen does not burn in itself, but it makes other things burn). In an environment where there is excess oxygen, you have to avoid sparks, including those caused by static electricity. And rubber soles on shoes, rubbing against a carpet, are a major source of static electricity. So with the right kind of shoe covering, you can avoid that problem.

What is the difference between prevent and avoid?

prevent is where you take action against something, whereas avoid is where you usually just physically move away from that thing. an example is you are scared of something, like an insect. one day, you see some wasps, for example, so you avoid them by keeping a large distance between you and them. However, you could prevent them from getting to you by using some form of deterrent or by creating a barrier.

Can personal behavior is the only factor that determines if a person becomes ill?

Personal behavior is one of the best ways to avoid getting sick (cleanliness, diet, exercise, etc.) but not the only factor. Stress (good and bad), environment (sudden weather shifts, allergens in the air), and other people's behavior can all endanger your health. Simplest answer is take care of yourself to avoid most illnesses but you can still get sick interacting with the world around you.

Ben franklins famous kite experiment?

The kite was invented by the Chinese; Ben Franklin used the kite instead of using conductive rods to avoid danger. Ben strung up a key to the kite and the string used on the kite is kept dry to act as an insulator so that Ben will be less electrocuted while standing on the ground.

How can you avoid getting shocked because of static electricity?

actually yes!... you can... although it will be consider a weird thing to do. Constantly be touching wood. Never, if you don't want to be shocked, touch metal without touching wood first. There are other ways to stop getting shocked by static electricity. One way is to put lotion on exposed skin areas. See the Related Link for more ideas.

When circuit boards are static how do you make them antistatic?

Dont understand the question! You mean that your circuit boards are charged with static electricity? If so, direct a flow of ionized air over the boards from an Ionizer suitable for use on electronics to neutralize the static electricity. To avoid the boards becoming charged again handle them on static dissipative working surface and wear an antistatic wriststrap. Carlos Neffe

How a computer technician can utilize any safety tool to avoid static electricity on electronic components?

You can buy an anti-static wristband, or you could stand on a rubber mat. Also there are special screwdrivers that are anti-static. But I have built 3 computers and I have never used any anti-static precautions!

Why is it important for people to avoid electric shocks?

An electric shock is static electricity built up, and when it is touched, it will shock you and you will be seriously ingured or even killed.

How can you avoid getting electric shock by touching non electric items or people?

Usually this sort of shock is from static electricity. The easy way to avoid getting the shock is to simply not have the electric spark touch your skin. If you have a jacket that makes sparks jump off your skin after taking it off, or anything that like - then just hold some piece of metal, like a screw or a pin, and touch it to a grounded metallic surface like a doorknob or a metal table. You'll probably see a spark jump across, but it you won't feel it, because it's not in contact with any of your nerves. This won't work 100% of the time, but it helps most of the time.

Why do oil takers seamen wear conducting shoe soles?

It's to avoid the possibility of static electricity build-up. If static reaches a point where it can create a spark - it could ignite the stored oil - causing a fire.

How do you avoid lightning?

You can't actually avoid lighting but you can avoid getting hot by it by remembering in a thunder storm turn all electrical devices of as this can excite the electricity in the clouds and make you more vunverble to getting struck by lightning

Is a person a good conductor?

Yes-we are composed of 95% water with salt and that's a good conductor. If you want to avoid static electricity shock, carry a quarter with you and touch metal first to discharge yourself. :-

How do you discharge static electricity?

If you touch the charged item to the ground, the charge will go into the ground. This is because static electricity is caused by either having too many or not enough elecrons. When toughed to the ground, the item will either get rid of the electrons or pick more up, making it neutral.

How do you avoid static inertia when performing a resting stroke?

Don't move

What are ESD precautions?

ESD stands for Electrostatic Discharge. You should avoid the possibility of static building up when working with PC components by ensuring that you are grounded at all times. You can do this by using a special anti-static wristband, which is available very cheaply. Alternatively, touch the chassis of your PC case often, or hold the chassis with one hand while touching any sensitive components.
