DVM stands for Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and is the educational title for a veterinarian from any of 27 out of the 28 accredited colleges of veterinary medicine in the United States. However, this doesn't necessarily tell you what the person does to earn a paycheck. While most veterinarians are either actively in private practice or retired from private practice, there are currently two veterinarians in the House of Representatives, one veterinarian who was an astronaut and many veterinarians who are working in research, public health, disease outbreaks and regulatory medicine.
