While easy on the person who died, death is hard for everyone around that person who cares. YES, people care. It is very rare that they do not care. They just might not show it well.
Oh and to be perfectly honest no one can tell if an afterlife exists or not so don't go trying it yourself...I'd hate to be the cause of a suicide...
