As long as you did get leaves, don't give up on the tulip. It may bloom in the next season. Plants need to mature, just like everyone else.

Will my bulbs flower this spring or summer?

First time using this site and I wanted to add details so I apologize if this is in the wrong spot. Yesterday I planted some bulbs in Northwest Ohio. Although the ground is frozen in most of my yard I was able to plant the bulbs around my house where the ground had thawed. I stored bulbs over the winter in my garage in containers filled with fluffy wood bedding meant for small pets. Some of the bulbs looked bad but 95% look really good. Some of them look like they've sprouted a bit and are a greenish/yellow/white color. I was really hoping that since my garage reached lower temps through the winter that maybe the cold would help. On the other hand it sounds like maybe the root system won't be in place. Any thoughts on what I might expect to see this coming spring or summer? Thanks for that added info. It sounds like your bulbs will be just fine and will bloom when they are supposed to, as long as you planted them at the proper depth. You don't say EXACTLY what you planted, but I am GUESSING they are spring flowering bulbs. In that case, they will bloom in the spring. There are summer flowering bulbs, too. Like lilies. If any of them were this type, they will bloom in the summer.

How often do hyacinth bulbs multiply?

Hyacinth bulbs will get little bulblets that you can lift in August or September. You can plant the bulblets and they will eventually bloom if they are in good well-drained soil.

Do tulips bloom more than once a year?

Daffodils are perennials as long as you take good care of them. Some people do not like the looks of daffodil stems and leaves after the plant flowers. They cut them off and this means that the bulb does not get enough sunlight to help the bulb store energy for the next year. Or they over water the area because of other plants nearby and the bulbs rot. So leave the leaves till they turn yellow. Then cut the leaves off.

How do you plant tulips?

Tulips use the summer to store up the nutrients needed for their bloom next spring when it draws no nutrients from the soil, pulling them from the ground will starve the bulb and it will not bloom. If you are moving or it is necessary to remove them they should be kept in a cool dark place till they are planted, some of the outer layers will sluff off like an onion but they will survive. I have tried the freezer for multi year storage with some success but the refrigerator is too moist and mold will grow.
