I dont know what state you are from, but in Indiana as long as you are paying something then they aren't going to do anything. They will call and call and call........, but they wont do it. Besides IF they send you to collections then they wont get all of their money. Just call and talk to the payment office( what ever that is called). Jst say "look I am paying all that I can. Is it allright to send in a 100 a month?" They will work with you. Hope this helps you.
KSPEER3: I AM FROM INDIANA AS WELL AND AM A PAYING CUSTOMER TO A HOSPITAL AND APPARENTLY I AM NOT PAYING THEM AS MUCH AS THEY WOULD LIKE AND ARE THREATENING TO SEND ME TO COLLECTIONS IF I DO NOT PAY THEM WHAT THEY WANT, WHICH IS $250 A MONTH FOR $2000. (NOT HAPPENING SO I GUESS I WILL GO TO COLLECTIONS)..THEY HAVEN'T SENT ME YET. I HAVE NEVER BEEN SENT TO A COLLECTION AGENCY SO IT IS SCARY TO THINK THAT THEY WOULD DO THAT, ESPECIALLY AFTER MY INSURANCE PAID A HUGE CHUNK AS WELL AS MYSELF. I HAVE BEEN PAYING THEM FOR ALMOST 2 YEARS NOW AND THEY ARE POPPING THIS ON ME NOW. I CALLED THEM, AREN'T WILLING TO WORK WITH ME, TRIED THE CHARITY ASSISTANCE BECAUSE I QUALIFIED, AND GOT A DENIAL LETTER, STATING THEY HAVE EXHAUSTED THEIR CHARITY CARE FOR THIS YEAR AND I CAN REAPPLY IN 2013, THIS IS MAY, REALLY, IT'S EXHAUSTED ALREADY? I HAVE BEEN TO THREE HOSPITALS IN THE STATE OF INDIANA, AND THIS PARTICULAR ONE IS THE WORST, THE OTHERS DON'T BOTHER YOU AND LET YOU PAY WHAT YOU CAN. I WON'T NAME THE HOSPITAL BUT I WON'T GO THERE AGAIN.
GOOD LUCK, I'M IN THE SAME BOAT AS YOU.
If they are on a contract (ie you are not paying them directly for their services to you) with a practice or hospital, then it would be normal (like other professionals) for them to be paid monthly.
No, as long as you have contacted the hospital and they are aware that you are paying a monthly amount and have agreed to accept that amount, they can not send you to collections. Most hospitals also have financial hardship programs and charity options. You should contact them to see if you qualify. I work for University Of Maryland and do ER billing. If you have a debt and the collecting party has proof of this debt, they have the option of selling your debt to a collection agency unless otherwise agreed upon through some legal channel.
Yes, an account can still be sent to collections even if you are making monthly payments. If the payments are not meeting the agreed terms or if the creditor believes the account is at risk of defaulting, they may send it to collections to recover the debt. It's important to communicate with your creditor and try to negotiate a manageable payment plan to avoid the account being sent to collections.
Yes, once you paid them, then you would no longer be in collections. Your credit report should update to reflect that it was either paid, or settled.
