Yes, Lira is a good name for a mermaid.

If you were to employ a 'y' instead of an 'i' then the name would mean girl who plays the lyre. Lyro for a boy, Lyra for a girl.

It is really based on oppion, actually. One of the names for a mermaid I would and have used would be Anita, Lux, Blair, or something familiar but uncommon.

Lira sounds a bit like Lila, which is common. Maybe something different? Or, mix some names around. Anita could be Tania, for example.
