In case you haven't read the Twilight Saga, Bree was a newborn female vampire introduced at the end of the big fight with Victoria and her newborn army. When Bella and Edward walk down to where Edward's family was fighting, Carlisle was going to save her as long as she didn't harm Bella. But Jane (a member of the Volturi Guard) arrived and said no due to the rules created to ensure that newborn armies were never created. They then killed her.
