this is a section of a newpaper where they publish the names of the people that died in that particular month or week. An announcement like that is called an "obituary" most of the time this is part of the section where the "classifieds" are.

I can tell you how to put one in my newspaper; most papers work about the same way.

Step one is for someone to die. We check that, because people have sent in obits for live people and the newspapers were sued for running them.

Next, a living person who knew the decedent writes the obituary. Newspapers don't write them anymore. If you're using a funeral home, you then give the obit to the funeral director and tell them which papers you want to run it in. My paper is in North Idaho, but we run many obits for people who didn't live in North Idaho when they died but lived here for a long time and had lots of friends here.

Of course, you will need to give the newspaper money because every paper charges to run obits.

And finally, you wait for the paper to put your obit in. It only takes a couple of days.
