No it's not, at least not the one brewed for the UK market. It states on the reverse label on the bottle that it has barley malt in it.

Is all rice beer gluten free?

Rice based beer does contains gluten. The amount of gluten in rice beer is much lower than than traditional beer grains. Though rice lacks certain enzymes that traditional beer grains - like barley or wheat -contain and which produce gluten, most rice lagers contain a certain amount of barley as well, and therefore contain gluten. Rice based beers are traditionally lagers which from Japan and are produced by large companies such as Kirin, Sapporo and Asahi. The rice is said to define the style and flavor of the beer. These companies do not promote their beers as gluten free. Many people who are gluten intolerant can drink rice based beer without a problem. Is kirin beer gluten free?

Kirin Draft beer contains Malt, Hops, Rice, Corn and 1420. Food Additive 1420 is a form of dextrin (1400) primarily formed from tapioca or corn. It's function is to reduce or control foam in beer. Even though malt often comes from barley, based on the listed ingredients its gluten content is probably low enough for it to be legally gluten free at 20ppm. Most gluten laden beers have a lot of wheat in the brewing process. In the same way, and based on personal experience, Bud Light, Corona Beer and Asahi Dry are safe for most wheat allergic and celiac sufferers to drink.
