No, it is not illegal to shoot yourself, but it would be suicidal and that would not be a good thing. Also, if you live, the police cannot put you in jail because you did not shoot or kill someone else, and therefore, you are not committing a crime.
But if you died, you defiantly couldn't be arrested because you are dead.
Also, if you die and you either did or didn't leave a note saying you killed yourself, the police would probably set up an investigation to make sure someone else didn't shoot you or make a fake suicide note saying you killed yourself. But I DO NOT recommend that you shoot yourself or commit suicide because everyone would be sad and life IS worth living and that is why god made you.

In some times and places a suicide resulted in the forfeiture of property and denial of burial in certain burial places. Suicide is no longer a felony offense in any of the United States. Attempting to commit suicide is illegal in all 50 states,this means if you try taking your own life and you fail in the attempt such as surviving an overdose or a jump from a bridge or survive self mutilation,hanging ect they can charge you with a crime and in many states thay can have you committed to a psychiatric ward/hospital for mental evaluation and/or therapy for a certain period of time as designated by state law.
A successful suicide is completely legal in all 50 states since a dead corpse can not be charged with a crime and brought into court...
