In this case I would say it's worth a shot to get him back. He isn't married, and long distance relationships have a very low percentage of working out. He isn't married. The best thing to do is simply meet with your ex b/f and tell him what is in your heart. This is no time to fear rejection. He may well be lonely and needs someone in his life. If he left you then be careful what you wish for. If you didn't get along before and he or you cheated (not blaming either of you of this) then I wouldn't get back together. If you just argued over silly things and you have been separated for awhile and feel you have grown up and hopefully he has, then the relationship could work. Give it a shot. You have nothing to lose and will at least learn the truth. Don't go through life with "what ifs." Never be afraid to find out the truth about anything in your personal life and although it may not always work out, we learn from our experiences and should grow stronger from them if we are paying attention.
