I am speaking from personal experience. I took a medical billing course 2 years ago and I made a 3.75 GPA. It was not really hard. It requires you to analyze everything. It was a little tough for me to find different codes at times. You know, don't think of it as being hard. I realized during my course that I had more brain in me than I thought! I had to take an Accounting course and I was horrified...I meant HORRIFIED! I passed with an A. Don't limit yourself by creating an obstacle. The only thing I did not like is that most places want you to have 2+ years experience adn that can be a little tough unless you know a physician or something like that. What I would say is just do a little research on the job market for a medical biller. Besides that, if you decide to take the class, good luck and remember my information, I will help as much as I can!

Why do you think a medical biller needs to know everything about how medicare works?

A medical biller need to know everything about how Medicare works because if a procedure or office visit is not coded and submitted according to their rules, Medicare will not pay for it. Medicare is a little more strict than other insurance providers are, but a medical biller needs to be familiar with how every insurance provider which their facility accepts works.

What type of computer would a biller and coder need?

The type of computer a biller and coder would need is a regular desktop, with a printer and scanner since the job consists of a lot of printing an scanning. A biller and coder has the obligation of processing, submitting, and following up on claims to insurance companies in order to receive payment for services of a health care provider, so the size and weight of the computer is not important because they will not be mobile.
