Yes, Mitt Romney is a Republican, but he is pretty moderate.
Frankly, as of the 2012 presidential primary, it's really hard to claim that Romney is "moderate" in any sense. Some of this has to do with the problem that capturing the Republican nomination in recent years has required the candidates to pay homage to the hard-core Right portion of the Republican Party (as such people are much more likely to vote in a primary).
Given his current stance on issue, it's impossible to classify Romney as anything other than a Conservative. We'll see if he decides to change his stance on issues during the general election season in an attempt to appeal to moderates and independents, or if the current "ideological-purity-at-all-costs" viewpoint of much of the Republican Party prevents him from doing so.
