First, you did not identify which South University you are referring to. There are three, one in Georgia, one in Alabama, and one in South Carolina. However, in this instance all three have a regional accreditation.
When choosing an institution, you should look for colleges and universities that have a regional accreditation, not national. The regional accreditation actually has a higher standard than the national accreditation, and is the most preferred. With a regional accreditation you can be assured the coursework and degree you complete will be recognized by all other colleges and universities as well as employers. Do not be fooled by the word national. Because people see the word national, they automatically assume that it is better than regional which is not the case here. Remember to select a school with a regional accreditation, it will make a big difference especially if you choose to continue your education to the graduate level. In addition, employers in the know, may not accept a degree from a nationally accredited institution.
Below I have listed the six regional accrediting agencies and their geographical area of responsibility. Make sure the institution you choose has one of these.
Regional Accreditation Agencies

If you are talking about National University, San Diego, California then my answer would be YES. It is excellent choice for none traditional students such as military, full time jobs, family obligation, etc.... I attended National University few years ago and I had great experience. National University is regionally accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) since 1977. They offer on campus and on-line varieties of undergraduate and graduate degrees.
"After reviewing the website for the National College and reading through their main information intending to lure students into applying to their school, I could not find any information on this school operating any accredited college programs. No this is not an accredited college."
Yes. They are accredited by WASC, which is the same as CSU and UC's. They are non-profit and credits will transfer from any CCC to NU.
