YES pickles are cucumbers. Generally. officially pickles are any food that has been pickled.
But when normal people refer to Pickles they mean pickled cucumbers.
A few other things you can pickle: vegetables, fungi, eggs, even Ume- Japanese plums which when pickled become the salty and sour umeboshi
