Edgard Varèse coined the definition of music as organized sound. So if you go by his definition, yes, Rap is considered music. Like most of the questions on this site, this is a truly subjective question, just as the definition of music in and of itself is subjective. Everyone from composers, philosophers, scientists and linguists have debated the question, "What is music?" The simple answer is, music is what you decide music is.

∙ 14y agoRap is not considered singing. Sure there are some aspects of rap that would technically fall into the category of singing. Singing is melodic (a rhythmic succession of single tones organized as an aesthetic whole). Rapping tends to be monotonous (uttered or sounded in one unvarying tone : marked by a sameness of pitch and intensity). To help get this point across better I'll give you a few examples: Jay-Z raps. There is normally no varying pitches associated with what he does. Beyonce on the other hand uses lots of different pitches with what she does(singing). Some rappers do sing (Drake, Lil Wayne) but not all the time.
