Six Sigma is relevant to all industries as it seeks to improve quality, reduce waste and reduce errors. The whole philosophy is based upon trying to understand how you existing processes work and then you are in a far better position to look at how and where you can make improvements. Improving quality can help to stop delays or re-work (ensuring the quality of delivered materials such as cement is up to the right standard), checks that may need to be put in place to ensuring the footings are in the right place, understanding your supply chain and when the materials will get delivered to your site to stop unnecessary delays etc. Reduced delays helps to improve performance, ultimately increasing profits and staff morale, and leading to improved quality products being produced. They key will be to understand where and when you should and shouldn't apply it. You should consider applying it on a major issue that is causing you and the rest of the staff some big headaches. Once you have proven it works and then convinced the staff of the value, you will be surprised on where they will look at doing it next.
