Reverend Charles H. Nicks, Jr. was the Pastor of the St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan from 1972-1988. Under his leadership the Church grew from 500 to over 2,000 members. He was a preacher, teacher, gifted organist, and songwriter. He was anointed to reach the masses. He was one of the first Baptist Pastors in Detroit to anoint with oil and lay hands for healing. A few of the songs he wrote were: "Come Unto Jesus", "Hold Back the Night", and "O Give Thanks". He was the founder of the annual November "O Give Thanks" Concerts. For over 25 years the city of Detroit and friends from around the country looked forward to attending this annual event at the Henry & Edsel Ford Auditorium. The St. James Adult Choir had a membership of over 200. Radio stations still play Pastor Nicks' arrangement of the "Lord's Prayer". He was the Director of the Wolverine State Baptist Choir that had over 1,000 members. He directed one of the largest choirs for the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education. He was the founder of the Baptist Assembly of Free Spirit Churches, which is the foundation of the Full Gospel Baptist Churches founded by Bishop Paul Morton. He was the 1st Vice-President Of the Gospel Music Workshop of America founded by Reverend James Cleveland. He was a loving husband to me, Lucille Nicks.
