The owners manual for your vehicle should have this information. Each make and model is potentially wired differently, so it's hard to say for sure when you haven't told us what kind of car it is.
i have a 1997 grand am 3.1 liter motor no spark or dash lights or fuel pump pressure
A 2005 PT Cruiser does have a fuel pump relay. They have a fuel pump relay rather than a fuel pump switch. The fuel pump relay is located in the fuse box.
The main relay and the fuel pump relay are the same. Take the fuel pump relay and swap it with the main relay and see if that will help you....
If the relay is bad, then the fuel pump will not work.
Yes, it is a fuel pump relay.
It is under the hood in the engine compartment. It should be a relay not a fuse. There is a diagram in your owners manual that should tell witch one controls the fuel pump. An easy way to diagnose it is to swap a relay that you know works (and is not necessary for running the engine ex. head lights or fog lights) and try and start it. If it still doesn't start or probably something else. I just had same problem except it was the fuel pump not the relay $1000 to repair.
Bypass the relay and if the pump works the relay is bad.
Bad relay, No power to relay, Wiring from relay to pump and our most likely problem is, the fuel pump is bad. changed it already
Fuel pump relay, horn relay, daytime running lights relay and if there is a fourth, power door lock relay.
The fuel pump relay switch looks like the normal electric switch. The function of fuel pump relay switch is turn the fuel pump on.
Swap the fuel pump relay with another like relay in the fuse/relay center. If the problem with the fuel pump goes away, the relay was bad. If not, knowing GM fuel pumps, the fuel pump is the problem.
If the fuel pump relay is defective the fuel pump will not run.
