The whole thing that caused this was the Mayans for some reason didn't go past 2082 (sorry, NOTtrue...) on their calenders. As they correctly predicted WW2 (Strangley!) people thought this meant the end of the world.
The short answer is: Probably not, but please stay tuned...

∙ 12y agoNo serious scientist believes this. It's all just a hoax, there is no proof that 2012 is the end. Besides, even if the Mayans are right about this, their Calender says nothing about any catastrophic event occurring, 2012 is where it simply starts again.
If people knew that the ' World as we know it ' would end , People wouldn't be paying lots of money for the Olympic games in the year ' 2012 ' they would have to Cancel it and wouldn't be paying anything at all. Plus people wouldn't be getting new jobs now, because normally you keep a job for years if you like it.

This is what many people believe in:
The world is going to end when:
- When you see earthquakes.
- When you see Vulcans.
- When you see many problems.
- When you see wars.
- When you see protests.
The true answer is that nobody knows when the earth will end, but it will happen in a long time in the future.
There was a movie called 2012 about the end of the world, but that is just for entertainment.

∙ 13y agoScientists do not predict the end of the world in 2012. It follows from logic, then, that they do not know how it might end if indeed it does in our near future.
The idea that the world will end in December of 2012 is not science, it is pseudoscience. That is... fake science. Those who predict the end upon a certain date are the same as all the others who came before them. They are book writers and conspiracy theorists looking to make a quick buck.
These same quacks posing as scientists will, on New Year's Day 2013, concoct a brand new doomsday "theory" explaining why they were wrong, and why they will not be wrong the next time. They will be wrong again.
It is a simple concept: no one can predict the future more than two or three days out. And that is only in the realm of weather forecasting.

∙ 12y agoI DON'T believe the world is going to end in 2012. But, a lot of people, including scientists that study ancient civilizations, believe that the world is going to end because the Mayans (who created the calendar we use today) stopped the calendar at 2012. It has gotten people all fired up in thinking the world is going to end soon. Someone had said that on 12/12/12 he is going to jump off a cliff so, he doesn't have to suffer the end of the world.
There was a comic that my sister saw somewhere that had a picture of a Mayan drawing out the calendar and saying "Darn. I ran out of ink. This is gonna really scare some people later on."
