Why did people save their money in the middle ages in the holy land?

AnswerThey didn't. There were no banks as we know them and to send money that far would have been dangerous. AnswerPeople could save money in the Holy Land, but they had no reason to do so unless they lived there or intended to go there. Large amounts of money were routinely transferred by the Knights Templar who provided many of the services of later banks. The Knights Templar could transfer money to the Holy Land, if that was what a person wanted, but they would not do so unless it was specifically requested, and the money deposited with them was usually kept where was. And transfers were also possible to other places. Please see the link below for information on the Knights Templar.

Was William the marshall a templar?

Marshall was made a member of the Knights templar on his deathbed, and was buried in Temple Church, london. however, he was not a templar during the time he was actually active as a knight. It could be considered that his taking the templar's vows was fulfilment of a request from Henry the Younger, that Marshall go on crusade on his behalf, whereby Marshal also gave a vow to the Templars to end his days with them, a vow which he kept 30 years later.

What were the Knights Templars famous for?

Both the Knights Templar and the Hospitallers were Orders of monks. The Templar Order was accepted into the Church of Rome by Pope in 1129, when their first Rule was compiled to regulate their dress, equipment and religious services. This put them on exactly the same level as other Orders of monks: the Cluniacs, Benedictines and Cistercians - with one major difference:Their task was primarily to protect Christian pilgrims travelling to Jerusalem, so they became a military religious Order consisting of knights, non-noble serjantz and servants who worked as labourers, craftsmen, cooks, grooms and so on. All of them were also (first and foremost) monks, and the Templars also included priests to conduct daily services, hear confessions and give absolution to those killed in battle. Death on the battlefield as a member of the Order was considered Christian martyrdom, meaning that a Templar would expect to go straight to Heaven. The Order of Knights Templar was abolished by Pope Clement IV in 1312, just 183 years after its acceptance by an earlier Pope. People who today pretend that the Order can be re-established conveniently forget the main part of the Templar function: as monks within the Catholic Church, regulated by a Pope and having religious conviction as their primary function.MoreThe function of the Knights Templar, to protect pilgrims, was extended to protect the property of the pilgrims, both on the road and at home. Money and other valuables were often deposited with the Knights Templar for safekeeping. In many cases, money was deposited for transportation, and this eventually turned into a system under which money could be deposited in one place and withdrawn in another. Naturally, the Knights Templar provided a prototype for the early banks. The collapse of the Templars created a need for others to provide the same service. This need was met by merchant families, whose members traveled under guard, and who could manage property for clients. This gave rise to the system of banking that appeared in the Late Middle Ages. There is a link below to an article on the Knights Templar, to the section describing their economic importance relative to banking.

The Knights Templar meddlers or bunglers?

The following are opinions from WikiAnswers contributors: * It is well known that the Knights Templar did overreach themselves, but was that through meddling or bungling? Myself, I would say meddling. They had become far too powerful and thought they could walk roughshod over everyone, but as they found to their cost, they couldn't. So the answer must be meddlers.

What was the first bank in history?

The first banking practices that I know of were created by the Knights Templar. During the crusades many wealthy travelers attempted pilgrimages to the Holy Land however there were many bandits and bad people that preyed upon them , the knights Templar would collect there money and give them a promissory note that could be redeemed when they arrived at there destination

How did the knights templar benefit the European economy?

They were the first bankers, they often loaned money to high ranking people, such as Philip IV who in turn had them all arrested (the ones they could find anyways)

Who is in charge of the knights?

In medieval times, knights were often under the command of a king or noble lord who would grant them land, titles, and privileges in exchange for their loyalty and military service. They would also follow a code of chivalry and could be part of a larger knightly order, such as the Knights Templar or the Knights Hospitaller.

What rank ruled Rome emperors kings or lords?

The Knights Templar were permitted to eat three times a day (if their master permitted it). Meat was permitted three times a week, excepting on holy days and in that case, meat would be eaten the next day. They were permitted vegetables on other days and, obviously, bread. They had to eat in silence and could read a holy book whilst eating. Taking into account the conditions under which everyone else lived in the middle ages - they had it good.
