The first thing to realise is that your resume is not meant to build up your ego. It has one single purpose: to get you a job interview. This means you must be willing to leave out many of your favourite achievements, unless they directly support your job application. So step 1 is to be very clear about the role you are going for. You should have a 25-word goal statement that describes the role you want to be hired for. Next, list all of your contributions and achievements. Be bold, be creative, get your friends to help you brainstorm. Seriously, there are probably things you were appreciated for that you may be discounting or have forgotten. Make a long list. Then add to it. You achieved a lot, now you need to tell others. Then edit the items to make the benefit-driven bullet points. Use the formula Feature - Analysis - Benefit - e.g. "Captain of Basketball team, attracted top players and organised regular practis, as a result we won the championship". Now the hard part: hold each one up against the 25-word goal statement. Is it the one that best supports your ability to do that? Pick the 3 or 5 achievements that are the most compelling evidence that you are already doing the sort of activities. Odd numbers work better, don't ask me why, but they do, so you want 3 or 5 - not 4, not 2, and 6 or more is confusing. Then: review the list, and make sure they include - at least one leadership / achievement-oriented contribution - at least one social or community-oriented contribution - at least one personal development achievement If not, review your full list and pick the best one, replacing one of the others in your final selection. It's a tough thing to do and will take time, but is probably the single most valuable way you can spend your time. Following the steps above makes it a lot easier, by focussing your mind on one part at a time only.

They find out that college is really to get a person ready to enter a profession so they hate it. Our society has given the impression that everyone has to go to college and not everyone is cut out or ready for college when they leave high school. As it stands only 25% of the population get a 4 year degree, so many people leave college for one reason or another and most hate it. Our high schools need to prepare students for other jobs rather than stressing everyone go to college.
