I found a photo of one in 1936 on the bridge before it was opened. My uncle, Thomas T. Townsend, was head of advertising for Wells Fargo Bank. Our family was always told that he rode the stage on the opening day, but I'm not sure this photo was the same day or just prior. He went on to create the Wells museum on Montgomery St. in San Francisco, help restore the bank's Gold Rush branch in Columbia, CA, and bring the stagecoach into advertising.
