you should be onest about it, tell her that you'r really sorry but it woulden't work, you live to far apart and your'l never see eachother, but you could say we can still be friends.

I've never met my own girlfriend yet either (I do know what she looks like from pictures and I'm visiting her this summer though), but I still love her and I've loved her before knowing what she looked like too. That's because real love doesn't depend on looks. The question is whether you don't want to fall in love with her at all. Because if you don't let love into your heart yourself, then it won't get there. Even if you've only been talking, talking is still one of the main means through which we express our personality, so you should be able to tell from only that whether she's the girl you can truly love and be with forever.
Otherwise... I think it'll be pretty much impossible to tell her without breaking her heart :/ btw she might not want to hear the "we can stay friends". Except if you make clear you really like her and are serious about staying friends.
